STILL ON LESSON THREE

This is the one I decided to go with, It was from a photo I took of a little Sunday market in Hawaii

I'm struggling with this lesson, I have done three paintings up to now, but I'm not really satisfied with any of them, This one is a picture I did previously, I have done some more work on it, it still doesn't fit the criteria so I don't think I will use this one.

THIRD LESSON

This month our task is to do a painting of people , remembering to use lost and found edges, the correct use of dark and light, ie, small, medium and dark and light shapes, with a passage through the painting connecting both dark and light, To make sure that twenty five percent of the painting is the center of interest, and in the center of interest having the lightest lights and the darkest darks and the most usual shapes. Easy huh. Well if so why am I on my third painting with nothing worth posting yet?

First Lesson Jane Hofstetters watercolor masterclass

I am taking a masterclass for watercolor from the illustrious Jane Hofstetter. I am looking forward to working hard in this class. We meet once a month for a lecture and demonstration, We then are given an assignment to bring in next month. This months was the essence of summer. We could choose whatever we thought deplicted a summer mood to us. I saw this photo and knew right away it was what I wanted to do.

The french man

This a picture a bunch of us all painted of a random man a friend of mine took when we were on a painting holiday in the south of France, we all fell in love with the idea of doing a paint in with us all doing the same photo. I wonder if he has any idea how many times his image has been captured in different mediums by various artists.

Gala Pictures.

I chose these two paintings to send for the gala. These are the reasons for my choice, when I paint a portrait it is not my aim to paint as near a copy of a photo as I am able but to try to portray my feelings of what I feel about the person being painted, In these paintings, the top one is of someone who not completely at ease with the face he is showing the world. I tried to convey this by the half hidden face and the unreadable expression on his face.

The next one is of a young Clay biting his tongue as he listens to statements like,"You don't look like a rock star" and " I like you better with my eyes closed" I can just imagine the thoughts behind the face.

I think two paintings are a good example of my style of portraiture.

In a food line, Bangladesh.

I couldn't resist trying to capture this mother and child I saw in a picture of a food line. I left out all the surrounding stuff, I wanted the image to be all about the mother and child.
